Grand Opening Ceremony Planned on January 24th; New Artwork on View
BOSTON / MALDEN – The Art Connection and the City of Malden collaborated to bring art to life in Malden’s new Senior Community. Seniors will be surrounded by beautiful pieces of art breathing life into the newly renovated Center, formerly the Centre United Methodist Church. The Art Connection facilitated the donation of 19 original works by 15 artists for the dramatic installation.
The Malden Senior Community Center provides programs, services, and activities for Malden seniors to enhance their quality of life. A wide variety of programs are created for the mind, body and spirit to help elders live longer, safer, and healthier in their own community. The Senior Center recently completed their installation of artwork acquired through The Art Connection. On Saturday, January 24, the City of Malden will host a Grand Opening Ceremony from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm . Attending the ceremony are Malden’s Mayor Richard C. Howard, U. S. Congressman Ed Markey,members of Malden City Government, and the Senior Center Building Committee. The new Senior Center is being dedicated to U. S. Congressman Ed Markey’s parents. Residents and friends of Malden’s Senior Community Center are welcome to attend.
Christine M. DiPietro, the City of Malden’s director of human services, said of the art selection process, “The generosity of the artists and their commitment to bring art to people who may not have the opportunity to experience the pleasure of original art is incredible. We are so proud to be chosen as a site to display these works.”
