JoAnne Hungate is an established artist with Boston roots currently living and working in Tucson, Arizona. She has been making art for more than 70 years and works in water media, collage, and assemblage and has celebrated the placement of 75 artworks through The Art Connection.
JoAnne made her first donation through The Art Connection in 2007, and in the six years since she’s been participating with us, has placed 75 artworks in 51 social service agencies in the Greater Boston area. “I really can’t single out any facility as I believe each provides something useful and helpful to others,” says JoAnne, “It is a wonderful compliment to me every time you send me an email saying my work was selected.”
JoAnne has shown her work across the United States and in Canada, Japan, Korea, Australia, and New Zealand. “My artwork depicts my impressions and interpretations of moods and rhythms, offering my vision of a unique fusion of movement, color, and innovation as my art portrays a shifting scene that will engage the viewer,” JoAnne says.
Participants in Recipient Agency selection committees often pick up on JoAnne’s influences from the American Southwest and other places. The artist is pleased to make these donations, saying”I hope my work has a positive influence on those viewers. I hope it relieves some stress, reminds them of sunny days and calm waters or spices up their lives with color and action.”
JoAnne was an early user of watercolor paints in monotype and a founding member of Partners in Printmaking in Lincoln, Massachusetts. She teaches workshops on monotype printing, and many of techniques she developed and teaches are now being used by others. “I have had this opportunity to donate works to Art Connection for several years and it has been one of the most positive experiences of my artistic career.”
