Responding to Art

Thanks to Demetri Yannopoulos from the Boston Rescue Mission for writing our cover story. It’s especially gratifying to collaborate with those who marvel at art, and who show such enthusiastic appreciation for the work donated through our program. Demetri is one of many, and I couldn’t agree more with his sentiments. For their public spaces, Demetri and his colleagues spent the better part of three hours selecting twenty works of art from a portfolio of several hundred. We are often told that the art selection process, one of many steps in an ongoing collaboration with local community organizations, is often one of the most satisfying of projects for those involved. At this stage, we witness a full range of emotional response to the artwork. This range of response continues after installation, where the original works of art also provide welcome opportunities for reflection, inspiration, comfort, and hope.

We’ve had tremendous success building our art donation program. This year, we will partner more than 100 generous artists and art collectors and facilitate the installation of nearly 500 original works of art into more than 30 qualifying community organizations. We continue to rely on individuals like you – art appreciators – to sustain our program. I urge you to support us in “bringing art to life.”
